RAM’s continued success at the Terminal Operators Conference 2015
With the inclusion of bulk handling in the TOC Europe event schedule gave RAM this year a distinct advantage, by informing new and existing customers of the recent merger of RAM with PEINER SMAG, who are one of the world’s leading cargo grab manufacturers and the leading shipboard crane grab builder.
This year’s TOC exhibition was held in Rotterdam at the Ahoy Conference Centre in June. The level and quality of visitors to this year’s TOC Europe did not disappoint, especially for RAM.
To compliment the exhibition and give added value, the event also played host to high level conferences and provided technical seminars within the TECH TOC theatre. From its introduction in 2013, TOC also included bulk handling as part of the TOC schedule providing bulk seminars that dealt with products, innovations and solutions to the bulk industry.
The newly formed RAM SMAG Lifting Technologies group now creates the world’s leading lifting accessories supplier for bulk and container handling. The merger provides a portfolio of products now available from the Group to ports, terminal operators and OEM’s offering a complete package from now a global leader in container lifting accessories.
Recognition of loyal service
During the exhibition, to mark the occasion of 20 years of loyal service to RAM Spreaders, honours were presented by SMAG Group CEO, Sebastian Henning Brandes and RAM’s CEO, Philip Lee to Jan de Wacker, RAM’s Sales Agent for Benelux and France and also Sudath Tennakoon, RAM’s After Sales & Service Agent for Sri Lanka. Both Jan and Sudath were presented with commemorative crystal blocks.
RAM Spreaders stand
After the successes of last year’s TOC Europe in London UK, RAM have continued with the stand build as opposed to the standard shell scheme stand design.
RAM opted again for the same stand design concept of simplicity and comfort. Inviting visitors and customers to the RAM stand with a place to sit and relax and discuss new and existing projects.
In addition to the RAM stand, which proved to be very popular this year, was the coffee stand and barista serving different types of coffee to stand visitors.
The coffee stand created a good talking point amongst visitors and fellow exhibitors of being the best quality coffee within the exhibition hall, which in turn brought interest to the stand and gave opportunities for RAM to discuss the company and products on offer.
Forming part of the RAM stand structure, graphic boards showed the equipment available from RSLT and PEINER SMAG for container handling and bulk handling. The graphics displayed to visitors, the full range of products now on offer by the Group.
RAM ‘SingFlex’ twin headblock connection
Amongst the products available on offer from RSLT, RAM showcased their new innovative Twin40 headblock connection for use on single hoist ship to shore cranes, (more commonly known as the RAM ‘SingFlex’ headblock) which allows multiple containers to be lifted in one operation.
A video screen showed the RAM ‘SingFlex’ in action during port operations. This gave an insight into the efficiency and reliability of the twin40 headblock system with the emergence of mega ship container vessels and the demand for faster and more efficient container handling required as a result.
The video demonstrated the speed, efficiency and the flexibility of changing from single spreader mode to twin spreader mode in under 2 minutes, which created a lot of interest at the stand during the 3 days of the exhibition. The response from the video created many enquiries into the functionality and increased productivity achieved from the RAM ‘SingFlex’.
Amongst the many visitors to the stand, this included potential customers who had seen a seminar presentation on dust free bulk handling solutions at the TECH theatre area who wanted to learn more about the process and equipment.
The dust free process of moving bulk commodities from the mine to the ship, includes the RAM revolver® bulk handling machine playing a key part in the dust free handling process. This method of transferring the bulk is of interest to customers seeking a cost effective, fast to market and a dust free solution to moving bulk materials.
Talk delivered by RAM Spreaders customer
Ray Lee from Portside Solutions delivered a talk at the Tech Seminar Arena at the TOC exhibition on the financial and environmental benefits of the Containerized Bulk Handling Solution, which includes the use of the RAM Spreaders ‘revolver’®.
Lee explained to a large audience at the exhibition, the innovative way the bulk commodity is sealed into special high cube 20ft containers and is only opened by the lid lifter on the RAM revolver® prior to rotation at the bottom of the ships hatch. The sealed container system also eliminates commodity loss as well as avoiding contamination during the transportation, storage and loading process. Lee went on to explain that the system is flexible, portable and a low cost solution which can turn many standard container terminals into bulk handling ports, creating new cargo traffic and revenue.
Over the three day event, joining RSLT which included RAM Spreaders founder, Robert A. Mills and CEO, Philip Lee were Senior and Regional Managers and Sales Agents representing the regions of Europe, Americas, Asia, Middle East, Africa and Australasia. Despite the exhibition being hosted in Europe, visitors and customers arrive from all corners of the globe to discuss new projects with new sales leads generated. At this year’s exhibition there were no exceptions with the RSLT sales team and PSLT providing the flow of visitors and customers with help and support on a global scale.
This year, following a company merger, SMAG’s Group CEO attended the stand along with the Senior Manager and Sales Manager of PEINER SMAG Lifting Technologies. This provided a good level of support and presence of the new merger company and allowed a chance for visitors and customers to be re-affirmed that the company structure and existing contacts still remain the same, but providing a wider portfolio of products available to the customer.
RSLT still remains one of the main key suppliers
By introducing the RAM ‘SingFlex’ twin40 headblock system and RAM Revolver to compliment their range of spreaders, RAM have the ability to still remain one of the world’s key suppliers of container handling equipment. Product development has always been at the forefront, based on anticipating and meeting the practical needs of port and terminal operators. Development of spreaders, RAM ‘SingFlex’ twin40 headblock connection and RAM Revolver have always been about providing cost effective and reliable machines able to cope with the demands of ports and terminal operators.
Through the years, product development and innovations at RAM include twinlift and electric spreaders, the ‘CentreSpread’ twinlift spreader, ‘ShockAbsorb’ impact and noise reduction system, the RAM ‘PinSmart’ automatic twistlock handling machine and for the bulk handling market, the RAM ‘Revolver’ bulk handling machine.
Next year, TOC will be celebrating their 40th year of the exhibition. Located at the Hamburg Messe und Congress Centre between the 14th and 16th June 2016. RSLT will be exhibiting and will be looking forward to continued success.
